The properties of Electroless Nickel mean it can be used in cases where the plating has one or more of the following purposes:

1. Corrosion resistance
2. Wear resistance
3. Increased hardness
4. Reduced friction coefficients
5. Recovery of parts that are out-of-spec.
6. To enable welding

Consequently, the following are the main advantages:

a) Increased service life of the parts
b) Weight saving by replacing a heavy base metal with another lighter, nickel-plated metal (aluminium, titanium, particularly useful in the aeronautical industry).
c) It allows the use of standard materials instead of more expensive alternatives (standard steel with Electroless Nickel plating instead of stainless steel).
